Bulgarian Association of Travel Agents
The Bulgarian Association of Travel Agents was found in
1992 to assist, represent and protect the economic interests of tour operators/travel
agents in Bulgaria.
According to its Statute, regular members of BATA can be any Bulgarian
physical and juridical bodies - professionals with solid experience in
travel industry, who operate as tour operators/travel-agents. Associated
members of BATA can be any tourism-related entities.
At present, the Association embodies more than 250 members with the tendency
of constant increase. The members of BATA are the leading travel companies
in Bulgaria, providing 85% from the incoming tourism and 80% from the outgoing
tourism. Their members operate actively on German, Russian, British, Scandinavian,
Spanish, Italian, Greek, Turkish, Macedonian, etc. markets. BATA members
have applied and been approved as partners in international projects e.g.
Leonardo da Vinci, PHARE, Leonardo, Flag, US AID, Peace Corps, etc.
BATA is one of the founder-parties of the Council of Tourism - Sofia, The
Council of Training in Tourism at the Sofia University and is an active
member of the working groups on tourism legislation at the Ministry of
Economics, of the National Tourism Board. It closely cooperates with the
KTZP /Commission of Trade & Protection of Customers/. It is member
of the Board of the Presidents of the Branch Organization at the Bulgarian
Chamber of Commerce & Industry. BATA has signed Agreement for cooperation
with the Bulgarian-Russian Chamber of Commerce & Industry and negotiates
signing an Agreement with the Association of Bulgarian. Tour Guides.
BATA is a member of the Universal Federation of Travel Agents' Associations
(UFTAA), the Russian RATA, the American ASTA, the Portuguese APAVT and
the Japanese JATA. It actively collaborates with the Greek HATTA, the Turkish
TURSAB, the German DRBV, etc. BATA has signed Agreements for Cooperation
with most of them, incl. Yugoslavian YUTA and Macedonian ATAM.
BATA members hold managing positions in many international, national, regional
and local tourism structures. It has regional structures in Sofia, Plovdiv,
Varna, Bourgas, Gabrovo, Veliko Tarnovo.
The main purpose of the Association is to unite the professionalism of
the travel companies in forming the package tours, market it and provide
favorable conditions for collaboration among their members.
According to Bulgarian Law on Tourism BATA issues recommendations to the
Ministry of Economics for licensing Bulgarian travel companies.
Some of the priorities in the activity of BATA are:
to assist/encourage/protect
the interests of its members in Bulgaria and abroad;
to participate
in elaborating national programs for tourism development and to comment
on draft laws/regulations/decrees, etc.;
to establish
rules of professional ethics, code of behaviour and loyal competition in
the tour operators'/travel agents' activities;
to exercise
jointly control with the Commission of Trade & Protection
of Customers' rights at the Ministry of Economy;
to represent
its members in international organizations; to coordinate and encourage
their participation in national and international
projects, events/forums/ trade fair/marts/exhibitions, etc.
to assist in
establishing business contacts with Bulgarian and foreign partners, as
well as in encouraging profitable investments in Bulgarian
tourist industry;
to provide its
members with updated information on the current conditions and perspectives
of the tourist market.
